For the 'Lions' this is the ninth women's title, regaining dominance after the 'Eagles' achieved the 'encore' in 2023, and for Benfica, it is the third men's championship in a row, the eighth in total.
In this table, the Lisbon team reached 285 points and surpassed FC Porto, with 220, and Sporting de Braga, with 218. In the women's category, Benfica was second and the 'Dragons' third.
Among the individual highlights, there were three races won by world champion Diogo Ribeiro, in the 50 metre freestyle and in the 50 and 100 butterfly, as well as being part of three relays, in addition to European champion Camila Rebelo (Louzan/Efapel), champion in the 50, 100 and 200 metre backstroke, as well as two relays, both finishing with the best marks in the championship.
The coach of the lionesses noted a “victory of great desire”, with good work and “a championship far above initial expectations”, carried out by “very dedicated, all students”. The Benfica coach, José Machado, also praised the “hard-fought championship” in which they achieved “a very significant number of victories” and in which the team's worst result was fourth place, in statements to the Portuguese Swimming Federation.
