The Portuguese capital will be the base for the company's expansion throughout Europe, where it already has offices in strategic countries such as Switzerland, Spain, France and Germany.

Located in Parque das Nações and with facilities measuring over a thousand square meters, the new office, which will be responsible for the engineering and construction areas, already has a team of 50 employees, which is expected to double in the coming months with the hiring of 50 new professionals, according to a report by ECO.

With the aim of “creating a strategic point in Portugal for the construction of data centres throughout Europe”, the CTS Group plans to create 500 jobs in Portugal “in the near future” to “respond to international demand and the needs of the domestic market”.

“Portugal is a strategic country for CTS Europe, where we develop our operations and where we have a network of high added value partnerships”, says the group’s CEO, quoted in a statement. “One of our priorities is also to put our unique skills at the service of new projects in Portugal in the data center sector, contributing to making the country a reference in infrastructure for the digital and data economy”, says Filip Schelfhout.

Last year CTS Europe established a base in Lisbon, where more than 50 professionals work on engineering projects, while in Leiria it launched Velox Electro, where it has more than 200 people dedicated to building data centers. It also has a joint venture with Mecwide in Barcelos, where it employs another two hundred workers in this sector, and through CTS Nordics it bought a majority stake in Porto-based BIMMS, with nearly 100 engineers.

CTS Group and Eaton, through their NordicEpod partnership, will create, in Viana do Castelo, a factory to produce electricity distribution units (EPODS) for data centers, which will employ 500 workers. The Nordic group highlights that “in addition to creating direct jobs, NordicEpod will strengthen the local supply chain, collaborating with Portuguese companies and integrating them into the project ecosystem”.

“We are promoting reference projects in the country, such as the factory in Viana do Castelo for the production of EPODS, and we want to help develop the ecosystem in Portugal, assisting national companies in their internationalization”, notes Filip Schelfhout.

Considered one of the largest data centre design and construction companies in Europe and the Nordic countries, CTS Group has offices and projects in 11 countries, including Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland, Switzerland, Portugal, Germany, Spain, France and Italy. In 2024, it reached a turnover of around 900 million euros.
