The Azores Regional Network of Walking Trails has 14 new trails that are in the implementation phase. These will be joined by three new trail proposals approved at the last meeting of the Trail Monitoring Committee (CAPP).

Berta Cabral highlights that “these interventions are part of the destination qualification policy, defined in the Strategic and Marketing Plan for Tourism in the Azores (PEMTA 2030), allowing the expansion and diversification of the Regional Network of Walking Trails in the Azores”.

Currently, the Regional Trail Network has 96 approved hiking trails, totalling 838 km marked with internationally recognised brands and codes that guarantee the safety of practitioners and environmental protection where they are developed.

“For two consecutive years, we have been distinguished as the “Best Adventure Tourism Destination in the World” and these new routes allow us to continue our work of improving the tourist experience and consolidating the position of the Azores as a destination of excellence for this type of tourism – active, quiet, nature and adventure tourism”, highlights Berta Cabral.

Two of the three proposals for new trails are located in Terceira, and the other is located in São Jorge.
