So far, they have conducted four successful surgeries: two in the fields of gynecology, one in urology, and a proctectomy. All the surgeries were conducted under the supervision of an experienced tutor who has conducted many similar robotic surgeries. Tutor Lúcio Lara Santos explains that it allows for better observation from multiple angles, a safer treatment of tissues and a reduction in tissue injury.

Additionally, Portuguese tutors assisted in the surgeries that took place at IPO Porto. The programme plans to expand to areas such as esophagogastric, rectal, hepatic, pancreatic and thoracic surgeries, among others. These surgeries can treat patients in a less invasive manner, which speeds up their recovery time and reduces morbidity, according to Júlio Oliveria, the president of IPO Porto.
