In a bulletin about the month of April, the IPMA also says that, in terms of average temperature, the month was the 10th warmest April since 2000, with 0.78ºC (degrees Celsius) above the normal value (1991-2020), corresponding to 14.76ºC.
The hottest April on record was 1945, with an average temperature of 17.19ºC.
April recorded a maximum temperature below normal, but the minimum temperature was above normal, the fifth highest since 2000.
It was also the 7th rainiest April since 2000, with a higher than normal total precipitation, which corresponds to 143% of the average value, according to the IPMA.
The continent was at the end of April "without meteorological drought classes", according to the bulletin.
In terms of extreme values, the IPMA highlights the minus 1.2ºC on the 16th, in Penhas Douradas, and the 31.4ºC in Dunas de Mira, on the 9th, and in Alcácer do Sal on the 24th. And the greatest amount of precipitation, 73.2 millimetres, was in Lamas de Mouro on the 19th.
Portugal News, Really? I have a huge problem with your first line and statement in this article: "The month of April was hot and rainy on the continent".
This is absolutely misleading to the public, and I regard this as disinformation.
My question: "How can you call 17 degrees hot?" please. These kinds of articles are really not needed. Rather just give the facts, like you did, but please do not call 17 degree Celsius HOT? Are you going to call 20deg Celsius boiling, like António Guterres is claiming? Thank you for nothing!
