Last year, the ACP president had announced the extension of the partnership until 2026, something that has now been extended for another two years, keeping the Rally of Portugal in the top category of the sport until 2028.
Held for the first time in 1967, the Rally of Portugal has been part of the World Rally Championship (WRC) since its creation in 1973, the year in which it was the third event on the calendar.
Over the decades, it has established itself as one of the most recognised events in the sport, having been elected five times as the best rally in the world.

Since 2009, it has been on the world calendar uninterruptedly, organised by the Automóvel Clube de Portugal (ACP).
