Tied at the top of the championship, with 79 points, Sporting and Benfica are fighting for the title on a sporting level, but also on a financial level, with victory in the national competition ensuring Portugal's only direct place in the main European club competition.

Unlike the current season, in which the first and second-placed teams, which were Sporting and Benfica, entered directly into the league phase, the second-placed team in the I Liga will now have to overcome the third qualifying round and the play-off to be able to collect the millions distributed by UEFA.

At the start of this season, Benfica immediately received €43.17 million, with Sporting collecting €36.17 million, in a monetary difference that is calculated by multiple variables, such as the five and ten-year sports ranking or the market value.

All 36 teams that qualify for the league stage receive a fixed amount of €18.62 million, to which are added the aforementioned variables, in which Benfica, with a better coefficient than Sporting in the UEFA ranking, will be able to collect more entry money.

While it is still impossible to calculate the exact value defined by the variables, since all the participants in the league phase of the ‘million-dollar’ competition are unknown, the figure will be approximately identical to that which the two emblems received this year.

In the current edition of the Champions League, due to performance-related variables, Benfica totalled 71.435 million euros and was the 14th club that received the most, while Sporting collected 48.984 million euros and was 24th.

Sporting will host Vitória de Guimarães at the José Alvalade Stadium in Lisbon, while Benfica will visit Sporting de Braga, in games played at the same time, starting at 6 pm on Saturday, in the 34th and final round of the championship.
