The minister of home affairs, Anabela Rodrigues, and the cabinet office minister, Luis Marques Guedes, are to represent the government in the meetings, according to a statement issued by the office of the secretary of state for parliamentary affairs.

The first meeting is to be with representatives of both the Social Democratic Party and the People's Party.

Then follow meetings with the Communist Party, and with the Left Block, the Greens, and finally the largest opposition force, the Socialist Party.

The move follows a series of attacks in France, Belgium and elsewhere in recent days that have put police and security services across Europe on alert.
