In the early hours of Thursday 2 November, as the Ciarán depression passed through Portugal, which brought wind and sea disturbances, the strongest gust of wind ever felt in that place was recorded in Serra da Estrela.
The MeteoEstrela portal, which collects data at the Covilhã, Penhas da Saúde and Torre stations, noted on social media that the record was broken after 4am on Thursday.
“The season’s wind gust record since its existence was broken with a maximum gust of 146.5 km/h at 4:39 am”, indicated the portal on social media.
Mainland Portugal recorded, between 00:00 and 22:00 this Thursday, 1,090 incidents related to bad weather, with the North and Center regions being the most affected, a Civil Protection source told Lusa.

A source from the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) detailed that the most significant occurrences are tree and structure falls, due to the effect of strong wind.
Of the 1,090 incidents recorded between 00:00 and 22:00, which mainly affected the North and Center regions, Civil Protection has no record of injuries, displacement, or damage to critical infrastructure.
The same source added that there has been a decrease in the last few hours, with around 30 occurrences between 7:00 pm and 10:00 pm across the continent, which “makes us think that the peak of occurrences will have passed”.
