According to Publituris, IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) recently announced the signing of nine hotels in Portugal, adding 976 rooms to the national hotel pipeline.

IHG's package of new hotels in Portugal includes two brand collections in the luxury and lifestyle segment, with the opening of Kimpton Lisbon, Hotel Indigo Albufeira, and Hotel Indigo Faro. IHG also plans to open six hotels in IHG's Essentials segment, under the Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express brands.

In a statement, the hotel chain states that the project for Kimpton Lisbon was signed at the beginning of March, and this future 141-room hotel will be Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants' first hotel unit in Lisbon, as well as the eighth property in partnership with the Real Hotels Group.

Located next to Parque Eduardo VII, the hotel is scheduled to open in early 2026.

In the lifestyle segment, IHG Hotels & Resorts plans to open the Hotel Indigo Albufeira, with 80 rooms, after signing a contract with Mercan Properties. Scheduled to open in mid-2025, this hotel will feature a restaurant a swimming pool, and a bar on the property's rooftop.

This segment includes the opening of the Hotel Indigo Faro in front of the city's marina, scheduled for the end of 2026. The contract for this 127-room hotel, signed in 2023, constitutes the fifth property signed with Mercan Properties.


Six Holiday Inn hotels

In the segment Essentials of IHG, the hotel chain is preparing to open four Holiday Inn Express hotels. Therefore, the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Lisboa – Amoreiras, a property owned by the Real Hotels Group with 192 rooms, is scheduled to open in early 2025, in what will be the first Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Portugal.

The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Portimão, with 60 rooms, is owned by the Harland & Poston Group and is expected to welcome guests in the first half of 2025.

In the city of Invicta, the highlight is the Holiday Inn Express Porto–Boavista, a 91-room hotel scheduled to open in the second half of 2024, in what will be one of Mercan Properties' first collaborations. The Holiday Inn Express Évora is also scheduled to open in the second half of 2024, in a project signed with Mercan Properties that will transform a historic building into a hotel with 76 rooms.

Finally, the opening of two Holiday Inn hotels is also on the horizon, namely the Holiday Inn Braga and the Holiday Inn Beja. The Braga Hotel, owned by Soliteight Hotel Projects SA, has 114 rooms and is scheduled to open in the second half of 2024. The Beja hotel, owned by Mercan Properties, has 95 rooms and is expected to open in the second half of this year.
