According to Sara Gligó, from the Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (Fectrans), the strike on overtime and special events, starting in May, has already been “decided and finalised” in the two workers’ plenary sessions held on Monday and Tuesday, and approved by a majority.
Sara Gligó also said that the unions were mandated to “take part in all possible struggles that they consider necessary to demonstrate the workers’ discontent”, following the meeting with the company’s Board of Directors on April 30.
At issue is the fight for an increase in lunch allowance and a reduction to 35 hours of weekly working hours, “given that it will be difficult to obtain more in salary due to the decree-law”, he explained.
The union leader argued that workers “are not just for special events”, unlike the company that “lives only for events”.
“This way we know that there is a set of events approaching and that the strike will have an impact,” she said.
Regarding the meeting with the office of the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, which took place on Tuesday afternoon, Sara Gligó said that the union delivered the agreement on the remuneration variables (extra work and holidays), stressing that “with the exception of the years 2023 and 2024, nothing was fulfilled, nor was a counterproposal presented”.
According to the union leader, an Open Letter was also delivered about the accident that occurred last year, near Alvalade station, a letter that has also been delivered to the Board of Directors of the Lisbon Metro.
At the meeting in Miguel Pinto Luz's office, Sara Gligó said that the unions realised that, regarding the Career Regulation, the company's Board of Directors “merely sold the new professional category to the supervisory authority as being the best thing in the world”.
According to the union leader, the delegation was also told that the executive “did not say there was no money for the variables, having given an indication to negotiate with the unions, something that never happened”.
“We have already provided information about the process of struggles that will take place if nothing changes,” he also added.
The Lisbon Metro operates daily with four lines: Yellow (Rato-Odivelas), Green (Telheiras-Cais do Sodré), Blue (Reboleira-Santa Apolónia) and Red (Airport-São Sebastião).
The metro normally runs between 6:30 and 1:00.
