The construction of the equipment dates back to the first quarter of the 20th century (1923/1924), but its official inauguration took place on 15 January 1925, “according to historical records consulted by two researchers from the municipality”, indicated the Chamber of Lagos.

The celebrations begin this month, extending until January 15, 2025, the date on which a plaque commemorating the centenary will be unveiled and the work “Mercado Municipal da Avenida (1924) – Um Mercado Centenário”, authored by the two historians.

The celebrations begin on Saturday, at 10am, with a guided tour of the market.
