The decision was made by the ULSBA Board of Directors following a favorable opinion issued by the National Support Team for Primary Health Care, which reviewed the proposal submitted for the unit’s creation.
This new unit is part of a broader national strategy to improve the accessibility, efficiency, and quality of primary healthcare services across Portugal. USFs are composed of multidisciplinary teams, typically including general practitioners, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, and operate with organizational, functional, and technical autonomy. This model allows them to deliver patient-centered care tailored to the specific needs of the community they serve.
By establishing USF AlenBeja, the ULSBA aims to enhance the responsiveness and efficiency of healthcare services in the region. The institution described the move as “an important step forward in improving care for users within the ULSBA network.”
The new unit is expected to contribute to reduced waiting times, improved continuity of care, and stronger connections between healthcare professionals and the local population. It also reinforces the commitment of the ULSBA to investing in more agile and autonomous structures that prioritize preventative care and long-term health management.
The creation of USF AlenBeja is seen as a significant development for Beja and the wider Baixo Alentejo region in the ongoing effort to modernize and strengthen Portugal’s national health service.
