“We want the best possible outcome whenever re-homing is concerned. Anywhere is not one of the options!” Jenny Clarke, President of the Association for Protection of Animals Algarve (APAA), has come to this conclusion after many years of her experience with cats. Three of her own with the latest ‘Carla’ an almost ‘road-kill’ cat in need of much attention and care. “The problem is, cats are cats.” Yes. “They make up their mind who is their buddy and who isn’t. Very quickly. A few scratches and nips will be the first giveaway!” Sure.
When Zélia, APAA’s very own ‘Cat Woman’ passed away unexpectedly, she left behind her two cats and the ones she had re-homed. “After catching cats for SniP’ping some were just not able to go back to their colonies, for one reason or another.” Zélia’s heart with the world of felines, found a home with her, in a private cattery. Nurturing and getting them back to normal as possible. “Not an easy task. She was a busy devoted cat-lover. We want to ensure that each animal is re-homed properly, into the right environment with the right new forever home. “Our friend and follower Carina Ferreira, has been a wonderful help at a time when all hands need to be on deck.” Jenny’s van is loaded. “She has taken the most wonderful photographs, which will be, for space coverage, best shown in ‘Facebook’ with Lisa Dowling’s help.” Some of the cats will need careful matching, they may appear friendly furry felines on the surface, but who knows? “Interest has been already shown. But, we can’t just pop Kitty over to Aljezur for a chance introduction. Which has been suggested. If people are truly keen on taking on a cat then check out ‘Facebook’ and contact APAA, and we can arrange a suitable time to meet all the cats. The one you may be interested in, may not after all be interested in you!” Mm. Better to find out sooner than later. “Re-homing a cat already traumatised in its lifetime needs careful planning and attention.” Right.
