“This expansion ensures that consumers across the country can now receive products from Temu’s vast selection of products across the CTT network, including in more than 1,000 Locky parcel lockers,” the company said in a statement reported by ECO.

The partnership with Temu began in November 2023, when CTT revealed itself to be the “exclusive partner for Temu deliveries in the Portuguese market”. At the time, nothing was mentioned about the autonomous regions.

“Since establishing our partnership with CTT,” writes a Temu spokesperson, “we have continually improved our service for Portuguese customers.” “By extending our delivery coverage to these island territories, we are ensuring that all Portuguese customers, regardless of their location, can enjoy the same convenient access to the diverse product offerings on our platform”.

Temu entered Portugal in May 2023, recalls CTT, and has invited local sellers in several markets to the platform. Portugal is not yet included, but CTT says that “with more local sellers, Temu will offer an even wider and more varied selection of products to meet consumers’ preferences and needs, while supporting local businesses.”

The Asian company has been successful with its cheap products, not only in Portugal but also in the European Union. But the European Commission has shown a willingness to curb the growth of this type of platform, for example by proposing the elimination of the exemption from customs duties applied to orders worth less than 150 euros.
