The reason? The concerts by Taylor Swift, which will take place in Portugal on the 24th and 25th of May, at Estádio da Luz.
All trips from Madrid and Seville, on the 23rd and 24th of May, as well as the respective return trips, whether on Saturday, May 25th, or Sunday, May 26th, are sold out, according to the company, in a statement.
In turn, trips during the same period from the Spanish capital to Porto registered above-average demand, being completely sold out on Thursday. The same scenario applies to return trips, which “have booking rates close to 100%”.
Travel within Portugal is also registering a sharp increase in demand, with “trips starting from Porto and heading to Lisbon completely sold out, especially those in the morning on concert days”, said Pablo Pastega, general director of FlixBus for Portugal and Spain.
Trips originating in Coimbra, Leiria, Viseu, or the Algarve to Lisbon are also registering “a strong increase in demand for the next weekend”. However, there are other destinations with high demand, reaching up to 30% occupancy. From the point of view of the person responsible, this is a sign that “there are more people traveling in Portugal”.
Other countries
Even so, Portugal is not the only case, since “the concerts scheduled for Madrid, on the 29th and 30th of May, or those that took place in France, at the beginning of this month, generated identical phenomena”. Along these lines, FlixBus “reinforced its offer on domestic and international lines to respond to this high demand”.
“This increase in demand is proof that bus travel plays an increasingly important role when choosing a means of transport, whether for work or leisure trips. Not only because they are affordable, comfortable, safe, and sustainable, but also because of the price factor, which has considerable weight when choosing. Express calls are part of the country's mobility solution, and this high demand and responsiveness is proof of this”, concluded Pablo Pastega.
Taylor Swift makes her debut in Portugal on Friday and Saturday, accompanied by the band Paramore. According to See Tickets, the doors open at 4pm and the show, which will last around three hours, starts at 6pm.
